Southville Foreign University holds its 12th Global Dimensions Olympiad Finals

Southville Foreign University once again witnessed the clash of young great minds as it held the 12th Global Dimensions Olympiad (GDO) Finals last February 11, 2012. The GDO is an annual tradition of academic competition among the best high schools in the Philippines. Initiated by SFU and the Rotary Club of Makati Salcedo in the year 2000, the Olympiad aims to engage the country’s brilliant youth into an intellectual competition and encourage them to strive and become global achievers.

From the 26 high schools that competed in the preliminary round in November 2011, the six finalists-- Chiang Kai Shek College,Colegio San Agustin, Makati Science High School, Manila Science High School, Muntinlupa Science High School, and Parañaque National High School—vied for the much coveted title, the 12th GDO Champion. After the two rounds of mind pounding and brain battle in the fields of Science, Mathematics, Economics, Literature, and Current Events, Makati Science High School bested the other finalists and emerged as the victor. Coming in closely on the second place is Chiang Kai Shek College. Manila Science High School, Colegio San Agustin, Parañaque National High School, and Muntinlupa Science High School landed in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth places, respectively.





The students who represented their schools in the finals were all given scholarships in Southville Foreign University- the champions receiving 100% scholarship and the other finalists getting 50% scholarship. The Rotary Club of Makati Salcedo also provided cash prizes for the winner and the other finalists. Twenty thousand pesos (P20,000) went to the champions while the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth placers received P15,000, P10,000, P5000, P3,000, and P2,000, respectively.
