Message from the President
What comes to mind when you’re challenged to "Go Beyond Yourself"?
For several students at SFU, it meant raising the bar of academic excellence and going beyond expectations.
In a past issue of the Bridge, I talked about what the school does to raise the bar of academic excellence.
In this issue I find it a good time to reflect on how students go beyond themselves to maintain academic excellence as well as enrich their lives through extracurricular activities. You’re all familiar with the rigors of college life in SFU: endless readings, papers, assessments, exams, reports, group projects…

Message from the Head of the School of Business and Computing
It is my pleasure to welcome you to SFU and to welcome you to your new life as a university student.
Most of you are asking yourself the question “Will I be successful?”
But how can you achieve success? In University, in personal life, in business….
I want to introduce you to my ‘4 pillars of success’:
1. Planning
2. Practicing
3. Challenging
4. Having fun
Let me explain further:
Planning: Do you know that there is research showing that those people who set clear objectives for their future, double their chances to achieve these objectives Vs those who do not plan?

Message from the Head of the School of Hospitality Management
Dear Students,
Corporate Social Responsibility is now not only just a ‘buzz’ word or concept, but a conscientous effort, principal and lifestyle adopted by many organisations and individuals who recognise what we do today has an impact on our world, environment and the future!
As a number of our students are due to commence their internships leading to final qualifications and employment opportunities, I continuously highlight to our students that potential host organisations and employers are seeking candidates that stand out in respect of organsiational, communication, problem-solving and leadership skills and CSR projects and initiatives are an excellent way to display such traits and skills.

Maria Anna Bueno is presently the General Manager of the Heritage Mansion Hotel in Baguio City, Philippines – in charge of the general operations of the said hotel. The Heritage Mansion Hotel is a grand old structure
I had an excellent internship experience at Thomson Reuters. I was placed in the Human Resource Department, in which I was assigned in the Talent Acquisition Team. I took part in the recruiting process of applicants for the positions Research Analyst, Customer Support Executive, Data Analyst, and Global Support Desk.
