    GLOBAL DIMENSIONS OLYMPIAD

The Search for Southville Foreign University Scholars

As an institution, Southville Foreign University(SFU) seeks not only to mold students as bearers of intellectual excellence, but it also endeavors to reach out to the gifted members of society to experience quality international education regardless of their financial status in life. Southville Foreign University, through the pioneering efforts of its President, Dr. Rodolfo Ibañez, has established the Dr. Walter Leibrecht Scholarship Program, named after the Founder and President of Schiller International University.

The prestigious Rotary Club of Makati- Salcedo, in line with their thrust to be the premier service organization, partnered with Southville Foreign University' in an effort to maintain its responsibility to society. SFU's partnership with Rotary paved the way to successfully meet this endeavor by establishing the Global Dimensions Olympiad (GDO).

The GDO was initiated to develop global awareness, international perspectives, knowledge of world leaders, history, economics, geography, demographics and other fields of competencies in order to develop the talents of our youth who will one day be the catalyst of our society.

The GDO is the carrier program to qualify for the Dr. Walter Leibrecht Scholarship Program. It is conducted annually with the aim to invite six academically- gifted High School seniors from the top 100 schools in the country to compete for academic excellence. The student is offered an opportunity to bring their talents and potential to one of the country's premier foreign colleges. Scholars learn from an exceptional international professional faculty, as well as learn along side an international student body. The scholarships is open to all students but only a select few are chosen.

There are two phases in the competition, the first is the qualifying written examination and the second is the oral examination. The written examination focuses on three major subjects: English, Science and Math while the oral examination deals largely on Global Awareness, Perspectives of Global Issues, Knowledge of World Leaders and Figures, History, Economics, Geography and Demography. All eligible delegates from each participating schools compete in the written examination, held simultaneously in different geographical points nationwide. The individual mean result of the delegates from each school is computed to get the average mean in order to determine the ranking of the particular school they represented.

The six official candidates from each participating school automatically qualify as Half- Scholars. Higher level scholarships are awarded as follows:

100% Scholarship - 6 delegates of champion school
    90% Scholarship - 6 delegates of 2nd rank school
    80% Scholarship - 6 delegates of 3rd rank school

Full Scholarships cover tuition fees, uniform and monthly allowance. Other scholarship levels cover only the tuition fees. Books will be provided to full scholars on a loan basis, which must be returned to the college library no later than one week after the final examinations.
