    Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) was founded by Dr. Genevieve Ledesma-Tan in 1989 and grew rapidly into a full international school of 1,500 students with accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the body that accredits most international schools in South East Asia. In 1997, Roger and Helen Bartholomew of International Education Specialists (InterEd) teamed up with the owners of SISC to start Southville Foreign University, the first International College in the country.

    Southville Foreign University(SFU) was in some sense a response to the Asian crisis of 1997 which saw the cost of overseas education disappear out of the reach of most students in the Philippines. The idea was to teach the same programs in the Philippines that students wanted to take up overseas, using similar facilities, lecturers, texts, curriculum, examinations, standards, at a third of the cost of going overseas. Students would still have the option of taking the final year of their studies abroad.

    Southville Foreign University opened in 1998 with the British Ambassador and the First Lady, Mrs. Amelita Ramos, conducting the opening ceremonies.

    SFU hopes to bring high quality education to the Philippines to enable our students to be globally competitive in the industry. Partnering with known overseas colleges and universities and delivering their curriculum and programs using physical facilities and academic faculty similar to those of the partner institution is the route SFU has taken.

    The value of this concept has now been recognized in the Philippines by the Commission of Higher Education which has now instigated a procedure for the recognition of such overseas programs - largely due to the pioneering work of SFU.

    Southville’s partner institutions are responsible for providing the curriculum, instructional or delivery method, academic administration guidelines, and quality control. The partner institutions have regular access to key personnel to ensure that the programs delivered in the Philippines have no difference in standard to the program delivered at the main institution. The partner institution is also responsible for providing a mechanism for the student to transfer to the foreign campus should they decide to complete their degree abroad.

    Southville Foreign University is responsible for providing the physical facilities, the appropriately qualified lecturers (usually 50% local and 50% foreigner), the instructional equipment, academic administration, training, and the financial resources for all aspects of running the program.

    Habitat for Humanity

    Fifteen students of the Southville Foreign University School of Business and Computing, and School of Hospitality Management, volunteered to help construct houses for the Habitat for Humanity Homes of Hope in Rodriguez, Rizal on April 19, 2010.

    The SFU volunteers were divided into two groups to maximize work efficiency.
